Install the VPN client. Download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN for Windows installer. Double-click the InstallAnyConnect.exe file. When a message saying the Cisco AnyConnect client has been installed, click OK. Connect to the Stanford VPN. Launch the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client client.

Installing the VPN Client

  1. Download the AnyConnect VPN client for Windows. Note: If you're using Microsoft Edge, the program will download as a 'sys_attachment.do' file. You will need to rename the file to 'sys_attachment.msi'
    • If you have the Windows Surface Pro X tablet with an ARM-based processor, you should download the AnyConnect VPN client for ARM64.
  2. Click Run on the Open File – Security Warning dialog box.
  3. Click Next in the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Setup dialog box, then follow the steps to complete the installation. NOTE: We recommend you un-check everything (Web Security, Umbrella, etc) except for the VPN and the Diagnostic and Reporting Tool (DART). This will give you a minimal install. The other features are not supported so there's no need to install them.

Starting the VPN Client

  1. Go to Start->Programs->Cisco->Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client to launch the program.
  2. Enter vpn.uci.edu in the Ready toConnect to field, then press the Connect button.
  3. Select your desired connection profile from the Group drop-down menu:
    • UCIFULL – Route all traffic through the UCI VPN.
      • IMPORTANT: Use UCIFULL when accessing Library resources.
    • UCI – Route only campus traffic through the UCI VPN. All other traffic goes through your normal Internet provider.
  4. Enter your UCInetID and password, then click OK.
  5. A banner window will appear. Click Accept to close that window. You are now connected!

Disconnecting the VPN Client

When you are finished using the VPN, remember to disconnect. Train simulator free locomotives.

  1. Right-click the AnyConnect client icon located in the system tray near the bottom right corner of your screen.
  2. Select Quit.

When attempting to open the VPN client, the following error messages may result: 'Failed to load preferences,' or 'The VPN client failed to launch the client user interface application.'

Install Cisco Anyconnect Windows 7

It appears that there may be corrupt preference files. If there is more than one user account on the computer, it is suggested to remove the files for each user account.
Since there are hidden files you will need to follow the instructions in Section A, then proceed to instructions in Section B below.
Section A

1) Access the Control Panel
2) Type 'folder' into the search bar and select 'File Explorer Options'
3) Then, click on the View tab at the top of the window
4) Under Advanced Settings, locate 'Hidden files and folders..'
5) Then, click on 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives'
5) Click on OK
6) Hidden files will now be shown when performing searches in Windows Explorer

Windows 7, 8, & 10

2) Delete all the files in this folder
3) Go to: C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalCiscoCisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client
4) Delete preferences.xml
5) Right click the Cisco icon in system tray and quit Cisco AnyConnect

aunch the VPN after deleting everything, put vpn.illinois.edu in the server window and use your NetID and password to log in via the 'Split Tunnel' profile. If you are planning to use Library resources you might need to use 'tunnel all'.
