Microsoft 365 includes downloadable apps for Windows and Mac computers, as well as cloud-based versions of many apps, all of which can be accessed through the web. In all, there are about 20 apps available, aimed at helping productivity and increasing success.
Save when you get Word with Microsoft 365. With Microsoft 365 you get Word plus Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and 1TB cloud storage per person for all your files, music, photos, videos and more. Share and collaborate with others across all your devices. Microsoft Office Word is mentioned in top word processing tools 2021 for Windows. Generate files in DOC and DOCX formats, write texts, select fonts, colors and page parameters, add standard graphs and diagrams, import images, etc. Multiple languages are supported along with dedicated spellchecking.

Outlook is the most common app used at Texas State. Known at the university as BobcatMail, it integrates with other Microsoft 365 apps and is available on most mobile devices.

OneDrive lets you do more wherever you go. Get to and share your documents, photos, and other files from any mobile device, computer (PC or Mac), and any other devices you use.
Word lets you create, edit, view, and share your files quickly and easily. With Word, your Office moves with you. Whether you are faculty, staff, or a student, it's as handy as you want it to be.
Excel is a powerful spreadsheet app that lets you create, view, edit, and share your files. Great for accounting, auditing, finance or any other field.

Generally, a computer with at least 4GB of RAM that can run Microsoft Office (or equivalent) is sufficient for college classes. However, some majors require specific hardware. You can search the web with the phrase 'BYU Laptop Requirements' to find laptop requirements for some of BYU's most popular majors. Then, contact your college advisement center to make sure you don't miss anything.

You can use computer labs on campus, rent a laptop, or buy one. If you plan on going on a mission soon, it may be a good idea to wait on purchasing a new laptop because technology upgrades so quickly. The Office of IT rents out PC and Mac laptops on a first-come, first-serve basis, and will have tents sent up in each housing area during housing check-in. Students can also go to 104 Ellsworth Building (36 West 2230 North, Provo) to rent a computer. If you want to buy a computer, the BYU Store is a great option as it offers tax-free purchasing and academic discounts. The BYU Store also has a computer repair shop that is an Apple Authorized Repair Center.

There are two Wi-Fi networks you can connect to as a student. The first is the 'BYU Secure' network which requires you to sign in with your netID and the password byuwireless. An additional network used in select buildings is called 'eduroam.' To log on to this network you will use your BYU netID and password. However, put your username in the format netid@byu.edu.
On-campus housing areas provide BYU network jacks in each apartment. Students are then welcome to bring their own compatible wireless access.

BYU gives you unlimited storage in Box for as long as you are a student. With this program you can edit Microsoft Office or Google Drive files on any device. Simply click the link below and sign in with your BYU netID (format: netid@byu.edu) and password.

The BYU app allows you to access useful information on the go. You can get a digital copy of your ID card, map your classes, look up your on-campus job work hours, send YMessages, and so much more. You'll want this on your mobile device to stay in touch with the university.

Located all over campus are open access printers that you can print to directly from your laptop. After you download the print driver, it's easy to send your print job to any of these printers. Just swipe your ID card at the printer and you will see your net ID and anything you have sent to print. There are also several copy centers you can use for special printing projects (posters, flyers, binding, etc.).

The BYU Library offers FREE training for students on all kinds of software. These training courses are generally 1-2 hours/day for one to two weeks. Topics include Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, InDesign, Illustrator, DSLR basics, and Basic Studio.
